VET TEC is back.

After the original pilot program ended, many veterans wondered if the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would bring it back. The answer is yes, but the new version comes with important changes.

VET TEC 2.0 helps eligible veterans train for high-demand careers in fields like IT, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud computing through approved training providers.

If you're considering a career in tech, here's what you need to know about eligibility, benefits, and how to get started with ACI Learning Tech Academy.

Editor's Note (June 2026)

VET TEC has officially returned as VET TEC 2.0.

The program includes several significant changes from the original VET TEC pilot, including new eligibility requirements and updated GI Bill® entitlement rules, which are now reflected in the article below.

At the time of writing, ACI Learning Tech Academy's Colorado Springs location is approved to participate in the VET TEC 2.0 program, with our Dallas and San Antonio locations pending approval.

What Is VET TEC 2.0?

VET TEC 2.0 is a VA education program designed to help veterans gain skills for careers in technology.

Unlike traditional degree programs, VET TEC focuses on career training that can help veterans prepare for industry-recognized certifications and transition into technology-focused roles more quickly.

The program supports training in areas such as:

  • Cybersecurity
  • IT support
  • Networking
  • Cloud computing
  • Systems administration
  • Other in-demand technology fields

Veterans can attend approved training providers and receive support while developing job-ready skills.

Who Is Eligible for VET TEC 2.0?

To qualify for VET TEC 2.0, applicants must:

  • Be under age 62
  • Have a discharge characterization other than dishonorable
  • Be a veteran or a service member who will become a veteran within 180 days
  • Have completed at least 36 months of active-duty service

One of the biggest differences between the original VET TEC program and VET TEC 2.0 is that veterans do not need GI Bill eligibility to participate.

That means some veterans who have exhausted their education benefits may still qualify for VET TEC 2.0.

What If I Don't Have Any GI Bill Benefits Left?

This is one of the most common questions we see asked about VET TEC 2.0. Under the original VET TEC pilot, veterans generally needed remaining GI Bill entitlement to participate.

Under VET TEC 2.0, GI Bill eligibility is no longer required. If you meet the age, service, and discharge requirements, you may still qualify even if you have no remaining GI Bill benefits.

Does VET TEC 2.0 Use Your GI Bill Benefits?

If you still have entitlement remaining under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Montgomery GI Bill®, or other qualifying VA education programs, the VA may charge entitlement while you're enrolled in VET TEC 2.0.

The amount charged is generally one month of entitlement for each month of full-time VET TEC 2.0 training. Veterans without remaining entitlement may still be eligible to participate.
